How Coronavirus Handled in Different Countries?

What began as an unrecognized respiratory infection in China has turned into a global pandemic within the span of two months. Coronavirus, technically termed as COVID-19, has brought the entire world to its knees, gripping almost every country and spreading like a wildfire, all across the world. Investigative facts show that the virus had originally started spreading from one of the wet markets in Wuhan, China.

There has been in a lot of rumours and news going around on social media about the origin of the virus, but the source is yet to be detected. One of the most devastating viruses in the history of mankind, Coronavirus has not shown any mercy to any country all across the world. Being one of the most infectious viruses, COVID-19 infected several thousand all around the world, before health agencies and experts could even understand what was happening.

Too many people became asymptomatic carriers of the virus before any measures of containment could be taken, and even before the transmission medium of the virus could be detected. When it kicked off from Wuhan, the virus laid a devastating effect on the city, perplexing scientists and health experts, as no antibiotics or medicines seemed to be treating the disease. Since then, the battle between science and a highly infectious microbe has been progressing. While scientists and health experts have been working day and night trying to formulate a cure for the disease, the virus has caught the world by surprise.

We have heard about the Spanish Flu as a pandemic, but Coronavirus is of a different league altogether. While its mortality rate is low, the rate of spreading is extremely high, and since we still have no viable treatment or vaccine for the disease, people in hundreds of thousands have succumbed to the disease.

According to current statistics, there are over 1.8 million people have been affected by Coronavirus with over 1,15,000 casualties. Some of the major nations, with the best health services and infrastructure, have trembled at the hands of the virus. China, being the global epicenter of the spreading of the virus, has over 80,000 confirmed cases and over 3200 deaths since the emergence of the virus in China’s Wuhan, in December 2019. Although it has been said that the Chinese authorities initially tried to suppress the news of the spreading of the deadly virus, even coercing one of its health officials who raised his voice, the rate at which the virus started its killing, made the country accept defeat at the hand of the virus.

Chinese authorities left no stone unturned to contain the disease within the country and provide prompt treatment to the affected people, by creating container hospitals and boosting their entire health services to stand up against the deadly virus. People were confined to their homes for almost 50 days in Wuhan and Hubei provinces. The movement of tens of millions of people was controlled through lockdown policies all throughout the country. The lightning speed of response and prompt actions taken by the Chinese government has led to a recovery of the city’s condition in current times and the lockdown being lifted very recently.

But the scenario is not pleasurable or similar for some of the European countries and the USA. With over 210 countries affected by the virus, the countries that have been most affected by the virus all around the world are the UK, Italy, the USA, Spain, France and Germany along with other countries like Iran, South Korea, India, Turkey, and several other nations.

The USA has over 560,000 confirmed cases and is currently the worst-affected nation, with New York being the epicenter of the virus spread, affecting over 100,000 in the state itself, killing 22,000 all across the country. The country has taken stringent lockdown measures to combat the situation, closing all stores, malls, markets and restricting the movement of people in New York and other hotspots. The authorities have been constantly trying to formulate an ideal treatment formula with partial success. The US President has been constantly providing hope to the citizens through his speeches and the authorities have taken proactive isolation and home quarantine measures, that have been implemented, and the citizens being asked to adhere to the instructions.

Coming to Europe, it has been a “living hell” for Italy, where the country went absolutely berserk as the virus claimed the lives of almost 20,000 people affecting more than150,000 people. The prime minister of the country had broken down while giving a speech as the country ran out of burial space for the dead bodies. The rate of spread has been somewhat contained and there have been over 34,000 recovered cases in the country. The UK faced equal devastation with the British prime minister and the Prince being affected by the virus, and almost 100,000 confirmed cases. The government followed the WHO guidelines of a nationwide shutdown and cease of movement, racking up its health services and also providing economic support to businesses in the country. France, Germany, and Italy have all followed the same footsteps and isolation and home quarantine of the population has been the only working method to control the spread.

With the largest population, India has been able to contain the spread of the virus keeping the fatality number low, and the affected cases being on the lower side. Experts have said that the timely closing of the border to China and stopping of all trades with China might have helped India’s case, as India is a neighboring country to China, the scenario could have been different if a strict nationwide lockdown was not implemented.

Other nations have also opted for nationwide lockdown, cease of international trade and travel to contain the spread of the disease. With 427,000 recovered cases, we can only hope that the human civilization would rise stronger from this pandemic that has spread chaos and confusion. Several treatment procedures have been showing effects on the treating of the virus. This might be the only silver lining in the current situation and every citizen in every country sits in home-quarantine and have their fingers crossed, hoping that this killer virus would somehow subside.

As we all expectedly stare at science for a solution, we keep our hopes high, and pray for those who have suffered losses at the hands of this virus, and pledge to do our best to stop the spread.

Staying home is staying safe!
